Attention New York business owners. There are three HR things you must be doing right now to protect your business.

After watching this short video you’ll know exactly what these three things are and have an easy way to get them done.

New Yorkers are tough. If they don’t get what they want, they will try to get back at you. This makes it extremely challenging for business owners to protect themselves and their businesses from employees who retaliate against them.

I’m talking about when an employee sues you or reports you to the department of labor.

Here are three things you can do right now to minimize these threats.

First, make an updated employee handbook for 2021 (or your current year). Distribute it to all your employees and get a signed acknowledgment and receipt from the employees to prove they received the updated handbook.

Number two. Be sure to classify all your employees correctly as either exempt or non-exempt from overtime. You must keep accurate daily time records for all non-exempt employees, and pay them for all hours worked, and time and one half for all hours worked above forty each week.

Number three. Keep HR records for all employees with their addresses, email address, telephone number, mobile phone number and landline phone number, their hourly rate or salary, their job title, their shift, and whether you consider that employee exempt from overtime.

We get it. Most business owners are not good at HR, and don’t have the time for HR, so they just don’t do it.

My message to you is to stop playing with fire. Automate your employee requirement compliance and use the cloud to store your employee data. This way when you need it, even historical records from five years ago. It’s there, and it’s easily retrievable.

You can trust that Baron will do these three essential HR things for you, and keep you protected.
