The Questions 80% of Baron Clients Ask

Lionheart Larry, owner of Baron Payroll answers Baron customer’s most asked questions.

Hi, I'm Larry Kagan with Baron Payroll. If you're reading this, you are probably in one of two scenarios. One, you're either looking to hire a payroll company for the first time. And if that's the case, congratulations on having a business that you're looking to grow.

Or two, you're working with a payroll company now, and things aren't going well, and you're frustrated.

I talk with businesses all the time in both scenarios, and I know what it's like to find a company for the first time or to understand why another company is different from your current provider.

So I've put together a list of answers to the seven most common questions I get asked from businesses like yours. When you are done watching this video, you'll be armed with the information you need to make an informed decision on whether or not to hire Baron or a payroll company at all.

My goal here is to answer your questions in a way that makes sense to you and fits your situation. These are the seven questions I get asked most often:

1. What time of year is the best time to switch?

What time of year is the best time to switch payroll systems? People often think the beginning of the calendar year is the best time to change. This may be true depending on your company's size and other complexities. However, many companies choose to switch at the beginning of a quarter. Since you file payroll tax returns every quarter, the beginning of a quarter is a clean break and a great time to change.

2. How much work do you have to do to switch?

Switching payroll companies can be scary. Maybe you had gone through a payroll switch before and had a bad experience. Most payroll companies push the workload of switching onto you. They make you build the employee excel spreadsheets and make you compile all the historical data for the calendar year. Most business owners don't want to deal with the extra work. It's very time-consuming and requires payroll expertise, and if it's done wrong, you have a big mess on your hands.

Here's another area where Baron stands out. Baron will do all this work for you if you allow us, so you don't have to lift a finger. This makes the transition onto our platform smooth and painless.

3. How long does it take to switch?

I'm always asked how long does it take to switch payroll systems. The short answer is four to six weeks for most companies. Things that can complicate the switch and make it take longer include companies transitioning from manual systems with hand-written historical data or bigger companies with many employees.

4. Will you have a single point of contact?

So what is communication like working with Baron? Will you have a single point of contact? Baron's clients get serious support from local people they know and trust. So you will have a single point of contact, and we won't waste your time. We know you, you'll get to know us, and that consistency of working with the same person for years helps you take care of things quickly. It also builds trust.

5. How come you never heard of Baron Payroll

How come you have never heard of Baron Payroll? Because we don't advertise. As a small business, we try to keep our overhead low and serve our clients. In fact, most of our clients come from referrals, so if you haven't heard about Baron, then maybe some of your business associates are not working with us. If they were, we hope they would share with you because I'm sure you are asking them who they use.

So, you can be the hero when you come onboard with Baron. Then, if they're not working with us and you know they have the same frustrations, you can share with them what makes Baron different.

6. Is Baron able to meet our needs?

Given that Baron is a boutique, local payroll company, I'm often asked if Baron is capable of meeting your needs. The answer is a resounding yes. Working with a local payroll company like Baron offers huge advantages. On the service side, you can expect easy communication and valuable expertise on New York's - state and local regulations. We'll save you time, eliminate nasty surprises, and keep you protected.

On the technology side, our partnership with the Ultimate Kronos Group, or UKG, enables Baron to leverage the behemoth software company's reliability, data security, and deep technical expertise required in the HR and payroll space.

Working with Baron is similar to how your company purchases health insurance. You buy insurance from a giant insurance carrier like Oxford or Blue Cross and get boots-on-the-ground service from your local insurance broker.

7. You are probably comparing other options, so how is Baron different?

If you are considering switching payroll companies, you are most likely comparing all your options and are curious how Baron is different. The most significant difference is that Baron provides both the technology and the expertise, then teaches your team how to use it. If you only have the technology, chances are it will never get implemented or used.

I liken it to the rent-a-car versus Uber analogy. You can rent a car, but then you have to drive, navigate and figure out where to park. However, with the Uber solution, you get both the car and the driver, and you can just sit in the back, read or do work, and get where you have to go hassle-free.
